Dua Kumayl[]

Benefits & virtues of Duas

Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) advised Kumayl Ibn Ziyad Nakha'i to recite this "Du'a" on the eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام), "Allah may protect thee from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of thy companionship and understanding, I grant thee this honor of entrusting this Dua to thee." (PDF Link)

Dua Tawassul[]

`Allamah al-Majlisi has quoted some considerable books to have mentioned that Muhammad ibn Babawayh reported this supplication of Seeking Intercession (Du`a' al-Tawassul) from the Holy Imams (عليهم الصلاة والسلام). Commenting, he added, “Whenever I said this supplication for any matter, I could find the traces of response immediately.” (PDF Link)

Dua Sabah[]

Also known as Shabbour to be recited Early Morning ,as taught by  Imam Ali ibne Abi Talib (عليه الصلاة والسلام). The Supplication of dawn is one of those soul-elevating prayers to the Almighty, which reflect the sublimity, piety, and high literary standard of Imam Ali's (عليه الصلاة والسلام) style and diction. This is because dawn is the best time of prayer, repentance and invocation to the Sustainer of the Universe, when the doors of the heavens are opened and all creatures receive their sustenance from Allah. It is a privilege of the Muslims to be commanded to stand up in all humility before their Maker everyday, at the first streak of dawn: to Glorify their Lord and Master and to beg to Him not only material but also spiritual sustenance. Dua e Simaat[]

Shaykh Tusi, Sayyid ibna Tawus and Kafami report that this dua'a, according to Muhammad ibn Uthman Umri, a reliable representative of Imam Sahibuz Zaman, was taught by Imam Muhammad bin Ali Al Baqir (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and Imam Jafar bin Muhammad Al Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام). Allama Majlisi says that all the pious religious scholars used to recite this dua'a. Shaykh Kafami says that this dua'a contains Ism-e-Azam (the great name of Allah). Imam Muhammad bin Ali Al Baqir advised the faithfulls to recite this dua'a as it brings the downfall of the enemies of Ahl ul Bayt. Imam Jafar bin Muhammad Al Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said that Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) taught this dua'a to prophet Musa to overcome his enemies. Dua Mashlool[]

This du-a'a known as "supplication of the youth stricken for his sin," is quoted from the work of Kafami and from Muhaj al Dawat by Sayyid ibn Tawus. Through Imam Hussain (عليه الصلاة والسلام) it is reported that one day he and his father, after performing Hajj, caught sight of a paralyzed young man crying his eyes out in repentance. They went near to console him and find out the reason of his sorry plight. He was a habitual sinner, always teased his father, disobeyed him and treated him with contempt. One day, disgusted, the father invoked curse upon him. So he was affected with paralysis. Then and there Imam Ali ibn abi Talib (عليه الصلاة والسلام) wrote his dua'a and gave it to him with instruction to recite after Isha salat. Next day fully cured, he came to Imam Ali and said that he had recited the dua'a as told and went to sleep. He saw the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in the dream. The holy prophet gently touched his body with his hand and asked him to remember this dua'a as it contain Ism-e-Azam (the great name of Allah).

Recite this dua'a after Isha salat. It brings countless blessings. All your legitimate desires will be fulfilled. It drives away poverty and sickness. Sins are for given. Debts are cleared. Enemies become friends. Domestic affairs are set aright. Disputes are settled in your favor. Prisoners are set free mental worries disappear. Prosperity, sound mind and healthy body stand by you at all times. Mercy and forgiveness of sins are the main advantages the almighty Allah makes available if this dua'a is recited regularly. he effective prayer is undoubtedly an inspired work. Dua Yastasheer[]

Sayyid Ibn Tawus, in Muhaj al-Da`awat, has narrated that Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'mineen (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said, “The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) taught me this supplication and ordered me to say it under all circumstances—sorrow and joy till death, because it unveils the secretes of creation and divine strategy.

Words can not describe its merits. Intelligent can not describe its meanings. No sooner someone begins to recite it, Almighty Allah send blessings, and his mercy surrounds him, peace and tranquility descend upon him. The recital of this dua'a moves to and from around the Arsh, its direct destination. All his desired are fulfilled. His needs are taken care of. He gets freedom from wants and is kept safe from hardships and misfortunes. His mind opens up new dimensions of contemplation. On the day of judgement he will be received by Allah with respect and honor.

It cures insanity if recited before a mad man. It relives pain of childbirth if recited before the expectant mother. It recited on forty Fridays consecutively all sins are forgiven. It cures sickness and disperses sorrows. For him who recites it before going to sleep Allah appoints one thousand angels to pray for him till morning. He who recites it and dies within that day, is treated like a martyr. It is recommended to be recited in the state of wudhu. (PDF link)

Munajat Ameerul Mumineen[]

This Munajat (whispered prayer) recited by Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) highlights and emphasizes that Allah is the only One who can bestow on us Mercy, as He is the Creator, the Infinite, and the Great, whilst we are the created, the finite, and the lowly. It is a very moving and heart-trembling supplication.

In this dua, the reciter asks for refuge against the worries of the Day of Judgment and confesses his weaknesses while invoking the the various exalted attributes of Allah for forgiveness and mercy. (PDF link)

Dua Ashrat[]

Imam al-Baqir (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said, "Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) told Imam al-Husayn (عليه الصلاة والسلام), 'My son, surly Allah's destiny will be applied to you in any way His wisdom requires; so, promise me not to tell the secret I tell you to anyone until one year after my martyrdom, for I give you the news the origin of which is from Allah Almighty and it is a supplication I teach you to recite every morning and night, for which a thousand thousand angels each of which is given the power to write a thousand thousand times more than [a normal] writer will write rewards for it, and Allah will choose a thousand thousand angels to ask for your forgiveness, each of whom He gives the power of a thousand thousand repenters, and will build for you a thousand thousand mansions in paradise, and there, you will be neighbor to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and will give you a house in Dar al-Salam so that you will be with your people; and in Eden, He will build for you a thousand cities; and you will be resurrected from the grave with a letter which will speak and say that,

'upon my owner, there is no fear, slip or punishment…".

Then, Imam al-Husayn (عليه الصلاة والسلام) promised to take the supplication with the mentioned conditions. Then, Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) emphasized that, "when you approach martyrdom, you should not teach this supplication except to your family members, Shi'a and friends, for if you do not do so and teach it to everyone, all kind of requests, even improper ones, will be fulfilled with it." Dua Jawshan Kabeer[]

Al-Jawshan al-Kabir is a supplication cited from the Prophet (s). The supplication includes 100 sections containing 1001 names and attributes of Allah. Imam al-Sajjad (عليه الصلاة والسلام) cited his father, Imam al-Husayn (عليه الصلاة والسلام) who cited his father, Imam 'Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) who cited the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying that in one battle, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was wearing a heavy armor (jawshan) and it was bothering him. Jabra'il (عليه الصلاة والسلام) appeared for the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and saluted him, and then told him: "take off the armor and, instead, recite this supplication which brings safety for you and your people". Hence, this is the reason for its appellation, "al-Jawshan al-Kabir" (the great armor).

According to a hadith, if a person recites the supplication when he or she leaves home, Allah will protect and reward him or her. And if a person writes the supplication on their shroud, they will be protected from the tortures of the grave. If a person recites it at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, Allah will give him or her the reward of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Ordainment). And if a person recites it three times during the month of Ramadan, Allah will protect him or her in their lifetime. (PDF link)

Dua Jawshan Sagheer[]

This du'a is narrated on the authority of Imam Musa al-Kazim (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and it is said that it is a very effective supplication, having all the merits of al Jawshan al Kabir. Sayyid ibn Tawus in his book Muhaj al Dawat has narrated that Imam Kazim (عليه الصلاة والسلام) used to recite this dua when he knew that the Abbasid caliph was planning to kill him. Dua al-Kamil[]

This dua contains (i) praise, glorification, gratitude and Tasbih of the Almighty, (ii) Salawat upon the angels and prophets, especially Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and his lineage, (iii) refuge against harmful things, (iv) supplication for well-being, and (v) intercession. Hence this prayer is named as the Al-Kamil (perfect) supplication as it eloquently asks for all the success in this world and the hereafter. (PDF Link)

Dua Hayat Qaaf[]

This prayer is related from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and its recitation helps in forgiveness, resolving difficult issues (livelihood, sickness etc), fulfillment of wishes and wellness in both worlds. It has been recorded in Al-Balad Al-Amin by Sheikh Ibrahim ibn Ali Al-Kafami. Dua Sabasab[]

This Dua is accredited to Imam al-Mahdi (عليه الصلاة والسلام). It is recited to drive away the enemy, to dispel the spells of magic or sorcery, and to seek fulfillment of desires, material as well as spiritual. It is a tested and approved supplication. It is better to recite it after midnight, nevertheless it should be recited whenever the occasion demands (PDF Link).

Dua Yamani[]

Al-Hirz al-Yamani, also known as the al-Sayfi supplication, is a hirz (protection dua) attributed to Imam 'Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام). This dua is recited for removing troubles (PDF Link).

Dua al-Ahad[]

This prayer is narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام). It mentions allegiance (العهد) to Imam al-Mahdi (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and request for his return. Its recitation every morning ensures the renewal of this covenant. The reciter finds himself under the leadership of Imam. The reciter beseeches Allah to include him among the helpers and aides of the Imam and to grant him the opportunity to attain martyrdom in his presence. In this dua one requests Allah that if he dies before the reappearance of the Imam, Allah should raise him up from his grave so that he may assist him in his mission. There is a fervent appeal to Allah to grant us the honor of seeing the the Imam and also an acknowledgement that the difficulties of this nation can be solved only by the reappearance of the Imam and that believers see it as being close while others deem it to be distant.

Imam al-Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said,

"Anyone, who recites this supplication in 40 mornings, will be among the companions of the Upriser (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and if he dies before Imam's reappearance, Allah Almighty will resurrect him to fight for Imam, and for every word of the supplication, a 1000 rewards will be recorded for him and a 1000 bad deeds of his profile will be wiped out."

Dua al-Amaan[]

A person in his dream saw the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), very sad and the person asked him the reason of sadness and he said:

During M'iraj I saw many believers of my Ummah being led towards hell and the reason was weak Imaan (faith).

The Prophet then recommended this Dua for protection of his Ummah as it will help them in the world, after death and also in the Barzakh (resurrection). This Dua is helpful for a person who recites it daily between Maghrib and Isha prayers for safety and protection. (PDF Link)

Dua Sâd Subhan[]

It is one of the glorifications and venerations of Allah. Jibraeel (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said,

If all the oceans were to become ink and all the trees were to be pens and all the angels were to become writers and if they would write for a duration equal to thousand times of the life of this earth, yet they will not be able to compute the reward of this dua.

O Muhammed (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! I swear by the One who raised you as a prophet. Any man or woman who recites this dua will receive the reward of 4 Messengers and 4 Angels. The 4 messengers are You, Isa, Musa and Ibrahim (عليهم افضل الصلاة والسلام). And the 4 angels are me, Israfeel, Mikaeel and Izraael (عليهم افضل الصلاة والسلام).

Any man or woman who recites this dua twenty times in his or her lifetime, then Allah will not punish him with the fire of Hell.

It contains 'Ism-e-Aazam.' Anyone who recites this dua, Allah will increase his memory, intelligence, age and bodily health. Allah will dispel from him 70 calamities of the world and 700 calamities of the hereafter.

Then Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said,

"I have never participated in any battle without reciting this dua and I have always been victorious over my enemies due to the blessings of this dua."

Dua Nasr wal Mahaba[]

It is attributed to Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and he always kept it with himself besides his sword and shield. It is narrated that whoever enters any conflict and supplicates with it, will surely emerge victorious. The prayer asks favors by virtue of the Greatest name of Allah (Ismullahil-A’zam) and the intercession (wasila) of the highest angels in heaven, the Prophets, the Revealed Books and all the Imams (عليهم افضل الصلاة والسلام). Dua al-Mujeer[]

This supplication of high eminence which is reported to have been brought by Jibreel (عليه الصلاة والسلام) to the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) when he was engrossed in prayers at Maqam-e-Ibrahim. Kafa'ami has reported this supplication in Baladul Ameen and in Misbah. It is mentioned by him that the reward for the one reciting it during the Ayyam al-Beed (full moon nights i.e. 13th, 14th & 15th) of the Holy month of Ramadan, is that his sins are forgiven even if they are in such plenty as the drops of rain water, leaves of trees or sand of a desert. It is also very effective for the cure of the sick, fulfillment of debts, acquisition of wealth and relief from sorrows (PDF Link).

Dua e Manzoom[]

This dua has been narrated from Ameerul Mumineen Imam Ali (عليه الصلاة والسلام). It should be read after salah in a state of wudhu with an attentive heart. One attains innumerable benefits by reciting it such as pleasure of Allah, purity of soul, health, guidance of heart, block whispers of Satan, freedom from hell, entry into paradise, acceptance of prayers, elevation in status/wealth/sustenance, payment of debt, protection against enemy/tyrant ruler/sickness/poverty etc. and many more that are beyond our perception. Dua e Abu Dharr[]

It is narrated that Jibreel (عليه الصلاة والسلام) told the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that Abu Dharr (رضی الله تعالی عنه) has become famous with the Angels because of his beautiful supplication. Abu Dharr told the Prophet that he recites this dua in the dawn. This brief but comprehensive prayer pleases the Lord and also saves from troubles. (PDF Link)

Dua Kanzul Arsh[]

It is narrated that Jibreel (عليه الصلاة والسلام) came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and with him were Mikaeel and Israfeel (عليهم الصلاة والسلام). They said,

"O Messenger of Allah, indeed the Almighty Allah has honored your nation in the world and the Hereafter. Then congratulations to you and your nation and for one whom Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) gives Tawfeeq (divine opportunity) that he prays by this supplication. For it is a great and majestic Dua. It is from the treasures of the heavens containing the exalted and majestic Names of the Lord, from Whom all the creatures have been originated. Then do not teach this supplication except to the righteous people of your nation because it is according to the command of Allah, the Exalted."

They also taught that whoever supplicates with it once, Allah will accept his prayer. (PDF Link)

Dua e Adeelah[]

This dua contains the articles of faith. Every believer must recite this dua regularly to drive away Shaytan and to remain firm on the true faith. A dying mumin in the last moments of life should recite this dua or ask someone else to read it aloud for him or her so as not to be misled by doubts which may come into the mind or not to be depressed emotionally because these forces together with the misleading suggestions of Shaytan, more often than not, in the last hour of life make man die a death of an infidel or hypocrite. Dua Alqamah[]

This dua has been narrated from Imam as-Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام) who recited it in the presence of his companion Alqamah (in some reports Safwan). The dua is recited after Ziyarat ‘Ashura to bid farewell to the Ahlul Bayt. (PDF Link)

Dua Makarimul Akhlaq[]

This Du'a has been narrated from Imam Sajjad (عليه الصلاة والسلام) asking for the inculcation of good moral virtues and noble qualities. It is a wonderful supplication for those who wish to excel in lofty manners. The prayer is a part of Al-Sahifa as-Sajjadiyyah, a collection of Munajat gifted to us by the fourth Imam (PDF Link).

Dua e Tawbah[]

This Dua is also narrated from Imam Sajjad (عليه الصلاة والسلام) in Al-Sahifa as-Sajjadiyyah. The supplication expresses the remorse of sins and hope in the mercy and forgiveness of Allah in a beautiful and elegant manner. (PDF Link)

Dua al-Baha[]

This supplication is narrated from Imam al-Baqir (عليه الصلاة والسلام) used to say at the last hours of Ramadan nights. It is also known as Dua al-Sahar as it is recommended to recite it in the pre-dawns of Ramadan when Muslims eat Suhur. Shaykh 'Abbas al-Qummi has narrated this dua in his well-known book, Mafatih al-Jinan. Ibn Tawus writes in his book Iqbal al-Aa'mal that Imam al-Rida (عليه الصلاة والسلام) said about this dua,

"The Grand Name of Allah (Ism-e-Azam) is within this Dua, so whenever you pray this Dua, pray from your heart, because it contains the secret knowledge."

Dua Nudba[]

Nudba' means to cry or wail. The supplication is narrated from Imam Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام) and is recited every Friday morning and the days of Eid. It beings by praising Allah and the lofty status of Prophets and Imams. The reciter then laments about the tragedies which befell the Ahlul Bayt and the absence of Imam Mahdi (عليه الصلاة والسلام), who would fill the world with justice after countless eras of tyranny. This Dua is recommended to be recited on Friday as it is the day associated with the Zuhoor (return) of the 12th Imam (PDF Link).

Dua Abu Hamza al-Thumali[]

In Misbah al-Mutahajjid, it has been narrated on the authority of Abu-Hamzah al-Thumali that Imam Zayn al-Aabidin (عليه الصلاة والسلام) used to offer prayers the whole nights of Ramadan. At the last hour of the Ramadan nights, he used to recite this dua (PDF Link).

Dua Umm Dawood[]

It is also known as Dua al-Istiftah and was taught by Imam al-Sadiq (عليه الصلاة والسلام) to Umm Dawud in order to get her son released from the prison. It is one of the best supplications for fulfilment of desires and removal of oppressions and calamities. Imam Ja'far-e-Sadiq (A.S.) said

"Do not teach this amal to each and everyone lest some should perform it for illegitimate purpose. It contains Great Name of Allah (Ism-e-Azam) and every desire will be attained for which it is performed in spite of all hurdles, even if doors of heaven and earth are shut as it were, Allah will suffice even if all the mankind and jinn are against the performer and every body will be subjugated. "

Dua Iftitah[]

The supplication comprises lofty themes about Allah and is excellent for molding man's attitude towards his Creator, as it discusses many aspects of the wretchedness of the human being, and the grace of Allah. Allama al-Majlisi has stated in his Zad al-Maad:

"From an authentic chain, it has been narrated by Imam al-Mahdi (عليه الصلاة والسلام), that he has written to his Shia telling them to recite this supplication during every night of the month of Ramadan as the angels listen to the supplication in this month and ask forgiveness for the one who is reciting it."

Salawat e Zarrab[]

Shaykh al-Tusi said, “This invocation is reported from the Patron of the Age, Imam al-Mahdi (عليه الصلاة والسلام)." It was shown to Abul Hasan Zarrab al-Isfahani in Makkah. Scholars have included this famous invocation in the recommended rites of Friday afternoons (PDF Link).

Dua Qamoos[]

It is also Dua as-Saifi Sagheer. This is a brief yet comprehensive prayer that beautifully and eloquently asks for all the favors and goodness for both worlds while hoping in the sublime forgiveness and mercy and of Allah. Shaykh Mirza al-Nuri has mentioned this prayer in his book entitled Sahifah al-Alawiyyah, (PDF Link)

Dua e Khatma bil Khayr[]

It is the 11th prayer in Sahifa as-Sajjadiyya and is also known as Dua-e-Aaqibat bil Khair. It asks for good outcomes in deeds and life. (PDF Link)

Dua e Hawl al-Arsh[]

This prayer is also thought to contain the Ism-e-Azam. It is narrated that Jibreel (عليه الصلاة والسلام) told the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) that whoever recites this supplication (i) his sins will be forgiven, (ii) he will be saved from the torment of the enemies, rulers, devils, grave & resurrection and (iii) he will be in Jannah as a neighbor of the Prophets. Dua e Saree-ul-Ijabah[]

This supplication is famous for getting a quick response from Allah (سبحانه وتعالى). One has to mention his Hajat after reciting this Dua and by the permission of the Most Merciful, it will be fulfilled.
